When dying your hair at home, you will need to do some prep. I have made many mistakes over the years, so please learn from me.
- Enough dye. Over the years, I have got about 3 quarters of my head covered, and then I have run out of hair dye. Which, when you use dye that is not available at a 24 hour super market is stressful. I recommend always buying one more than you think you might need. A lot of dyes will say to use two on long hair. I have learnt over the years that anything past chin-length hair is considered long.
2. Gloves. Semi-permanent colours aren't sold with gloves. And if you regularly dye your hair, I would invest in a decent pair. Over the years, I have forgotten to buy gloves, and there have been times when I have used food storage bags as makeshift gloves. Please make your life easier and remember gloves.
3. A shower cap. This is most commonly known as bleach to keep heat in. Semi-permanent dye doesn't need heat, but this is more useful for not accidentally transferring dye onto other things as you mooch around during the waiting time.
4. Time. It always takes longer than you think it will. Also, if you have long hair, please factor in time for stretching and breaks
5. A 3-way mirror, it is so hard to see the back of your own head.
